Purpose: Northcoast requires that all participants meet certain requirements as outlined in the National Rule Book to be eligible for play in this league. These requirements help ensure the integrity and fairness of the game, thereby making the game safer for the players. Northcoast also stresses the importance of academic achievement and formally acknowledges those who perform well in the classroom.
General requirements: To be eligible for participation, all participants must have a signed parental consent form, a current dated physical, certified birth certificate (copy), and present their final report card (showing all marking periods) as evidence of a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher. If a participant’s grade point average is less than 2.0 they will be required to have a school representative complete a scholastic eligibility form and turn that form in along with their final report card.
Certification numbers for teams: No team will be "certified" by the league unless all paperwork on the requisite number of players is completed by the August deadline. All teams must have at least 18 players eligible at the time of certification for the team to pass certification and form for competition.
Age requirement: Age will be the primary determining factor for assigning players to teams. The age of a participant on July 31, 2009 will be their official age for the 2009 season. For instance, if a participant’s date of birth is on July 1, 1999, that individual will be certified as a 10 year old for the 2009 season. If a participant’s date of birth is on August 1, 1999, that individual will be certified as a 9 year old for the 2009 season.
Weight requirement: A participant’s weight will be the other criteria used in assigning them to a division for play (see chart below). Participants must remain within these weight limits throughout the season. After the first game of the season, however, players will be allowed to gain 1 lb per week for the remainder of the season. Participants who are more than 5 lbs over the maximum weight will not be certified to participate during the team certification process. In addition, participants weighing 3 lbs or more under the minimum weight limit will not be certified. Our coaching staff will monitor participant’s weights throughout the summer to ensure that everyone attains and maintains their weight eligibility for certification. If a participant is over or under the weight limit for their assigned division, they will be moved up or down to the next age/weight division respectively, provided that their age allows. In instances where our staff feels that a participant will not be able to be certified due to weight issues, we will promptly give parents confidential notification, at which time the player will be officially dropped from the program.
SCHOLASTICS
The Scholastics program is designed to help encourage children to be good students. All football players and cheerleaders are required to turn in a photocopy of a full report card for the 2008/09 academic year by August 1, 2009. All participants must have a 2.0 GPA or higher to participate. Participants who do not meet the GPA requirement will receive a Scholastic Fitness form that must be completed by their school and returned to the Tigers. Please make note of the due dates for these forms. Late forms will not be accepted. There are no exceptions! If the forms are not received on time, your child will be dropped from our program. Should you have any questions regarding these forms, please contact the association's Scholastic Coordinator, Nellie Basit (216-571-0000).
PHYSICALS
Each participant is required to have a physical examination by a licensed health care professional before they can begin full contact practices. No one will be allowed to practice without a completed physical form. Participants will be dropped on August1st if they do not turn in this form to the organization. The required medical form will be provided by the association and is required for every participant in the program. You may use your own health care professional for this service, or you may elect to have your child examined by our team physician. Please be advised; it is NOT the responsibility of this organization to provide a physician for your child’s physical. We offer this option as a courtesy to our participants and their families!
