Children who have turned in all paper work, paid all fees, satisfy weight and scholastic requirements, and have completed at least 10 hours of required conditioning will begin full contact practice on August 2, 2010. All football players must attend the official league weigh-ins during certification. The weight of each player will be checked and monitored throughout the summer to ensure participants will be eligible for certification.

Practice attendance policy

Practices are considered mandatory, and all participants are expected to attend. In the event that a participant must miss practice due to illness/injury, vacation, disciplinary reasons, or family emergencies, parents are expected to notify their child’s head coach. Attendance will be taken daily, and each participant must attend at least 2 practices in any given week to be eligible to participate in the upcoming game. Per team and league policy, participants who miss more than three consecutive practices without notice can be dropped from the program.

Conditioning

Football players are required to complete at least 10 hours of conditioning practice before partaking in any form of contact drills. Conditioning consists of players doing prescribed non-contact exercises and drills to build endurance, agility and strength. During the conditioning phase of training, participants typically do not wear equipment, although equipment may be worn near the end of this phase. Conditioning must take place on the practice field and in the presence of a coach. Attendance will be taken daily to track hours of conditioning. Due to this universal conditioning requirement, youth football has reported the least amount of injuries among all youth sports in the U.S.

Items players should wear during conditioning:

1. Football Cleats (all players must wear athletic socks in their cleats)

2. Shorts or sweat pants (no jeans, jewelry, or dress shirts)

3. T-shirt (t-shirts must be worn underneath shoulder pads at all times. No exceptions!

4. Helmets and shoulder pads may be worn as conditioning progresses.

Training camp

Training camp officially begins August 2st, and ends August 27. Training camp practices are usually held four days a week. If participants have satisfied the 10 hour conditioning requirement, they will begin to participate in full contact drills. Many of the skills, plays, and techniques that participants will utilize throughout the season will be taught and learned during this period. As such, it is very important that each participant maximize their attendance and participation during this time. Participants who miss significant practice time during training camp will fall behind their teammates and their opponents. Practice games or scrimmages may also be scheduled during this phase of training.

Items players should wear to practice during training camp (after August 2, 2010):

1. Helmet (with mouth piece), shoulder pads, practice jersey (with T-shirt underneath), practice pants with pads, socks, and cleats.
2. Please bring water

Prohibited practice items/garments

1. Wave caps, or hats
2. Jewelry such as necklaces, earrings, chains, or bracelets (watches are allowed)
3. Sandals, flip-flops, or shower shoes
4. Metal spiked cleats
5. Jean shorts or jean pants
6. Sweat bags

Games
Game days: Games are typically played on Saturdays, with occasional games being played on Sundays. For all games, participants and coaches are expected to arrive 60-90 minutes before the start of the scheduled game (depending on the coach). This will allow time for the coaches to get their players stretched and warmed up, conduct weigh-ins, pass out uniforms, and go over game plans. Each coach will communicate to parents what their arrival time requirements are. Please do your best to accommodate their schedule. Also, remember to contact your child’s coach if your child will miss or be late for a game. In these instances, please try and call the coach before the game is scheduled to begin, as most coaches will not be available by phone during games, and consequently will not answer their phone. If you need to contact a coach during a game, please contact the designated team parent to deliver a message.

Game times: Game days usually begin at 10:30 AM, with the tiny mite games, followed by mitey mites (12:00 PM), Pee Wees (1:30 PM), etc. Games usually last a little over an hour. All game fields are operated and controlled by Northcoast officials and administrators. These individuals are responsible for controlling the start and pace of all games played throughout the league. The Cleveland Height Tigers Youth Football Association is not responsible for delayed, rescheduled, or cancelled games. If games are behind schedule, please be patient. Again, Tiger coaches and staff do not have any authority or control over the start or the pace of games on game days.

Game schedules: North Coast is responsible for scheduling the times, opponents, and the locations for all games played in our league. League schedules are usually available mid-to late August, after which time, will be made available to parents and participants.

Weigh-ins: Prior to each game, all participants will be weighed to ensure that they fall within established weight guidelines as set forth by Northcoast.

Transportation: Members of Northcoast Youth Football Conference travel to various locations within the greater Cleveland area and sometimes beyond. We have members in cities such as Euclid, South Euclid, Garfield Heights, Maple Heights, Warrensville Heights and Painsville. It is the responsibility of parents to provide their children with transportation to and from all games, home or away. The Tigers do not provide transportation to any games, home or away. Please make arrangements if you cannot personally transport your child to and from games.

Admission: There are no admission charges in North Coast Youth Football.

Concessions: There will be concessions available at all home games. The proceeds from the concessions will be used to fund our annual banquet. Volunteers will be needed. Please see Nellie Basit for more information or to sign up.

Game Cancellations: Games will be played in rain, snow, or shine. Games will not be cancelled or delayed due to inclimate weather except for the occurrence of thunder or lightning. If thunder or lightening develops, games will be stopped, delayed, or cancelled. Please contact your child’s coach to check on game status. Parents may also call the weather hotline (216-691-7385), although updates may not be readily available in time for game cancellations.
